@Moog Slim Phatty: Multitrack Sessions by Beephouse
The VCOs on my Phatty can take about 30-40 minutes to warm up. The fluctuating pitch drift from two slightly unstable oscillators create unique sonic nuances that give the Phatty lots of character that I really enjoy. Here are three back-to-back noodlings. Everything you hear is the Slim Phatty including the drums and polyphonic pads. Each session is comprised of a dozen or more tracks recorded and arranged inside Propellerhead Reason. The mix includes a touch of delay, EQ, and master compression. Haha yes the silhouetted dancers have made an appearance in this one. Enjoy! Slim Phatty drums: There are three distinct sounds that I use to create drums on the Slim Phatty. The first sound is a sine wave that is generated by the self oscillating filter, and is used to create basic kick, snare, and other percussive tones like congas and claves. The second sound is “noise” that is available as a modulation source, and is used to create the snare snap and crash cymbal effects. The third sound is metallic noise that is used to create the hi hats and ride cymbals. To create metallic noise, start with a square wave, then add a second square wave and detune it to create a dissonant effect. Next, modulate everything with a fast and wide LFO sweep of modulation pitch. The resulting sound is like metallic noise. Finally, process the metallic noise through a high pass filter to remove the low frequencies. Polyphonic pads: Polyphonic performances with the Slim Phatty are simulated by combining several monophonic performance tracks. I usually start by building layers of MIDI mono tracks while auditioning sounds on the Phatty before committing to audio capture. A separate MIDI track is reserved for filter sweeps, envelope, and modulation effects. Music: Propellerhead Reason 8, Moog Slim Phatty, MOTU UltraLite MKI, Yamaha HS8 & HS50M, Korg Pitchblack Pro, M-Audio Keystation 49. Video and Photography: Canon DSLRs and Adobe software. Captured at the Beephouse studio in Las Vegas. ----------------------------------------------- Follow Beephouse: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beepheads Facebook: https://facebook.com/beephouse ----------------------------------------------- Streaming: Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/beephouse/1058460454 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/08t4q50AYoAjGjuSXTpBUo ----------------------------------------------- Audio CDs: Blood Moon: https://www.amazon.com/Blood-Moon-Beephouse/dp/B07X289923 Sizzlepop!: https://www.amazon.com/Sizzlepop-Beephouse/dp/B077S6PBLY ----------------------------------------------- ©2016 Beephouse
