Pearce gets a note telling him to ditch the trial and vanish from the face of the earth, or his wife will be next. Years later, Pearce lives a new, alcohol-fueled life in Chicago. He knows his wife is still alive, but is too afraid to contact her. One night, a police car tries to run him over, and two police officers try to shoot him with no apparent reason. Pearce fights back. Soon Pearce finds out that the crime boss from his past has moved to Chicago to tie up some old loose ends, and he has the local crooked cops working for him."
