Bernadette Jarrard's video: Go Pro View of Upper Antelope Canyon

At two o'clock we arrived to be 4x4'd across the desert to the slot canyon known as Antelope Canyon. The 10 minute pickup ride was a wild one as Bonnie, our Navajo guide, sped over the orange sandy desert. She warned us "hang on!" and we did - clinging to the side rails, jostling, bouncing and laughing all the way towards our destination. When we arrived there were already several tour trucks at the entrance. The tours are staggered for better time management and crowd control. Each one hour tour costs $40 for morning peak hours, $25 for afternoon off hours. Then there is the two hour photographers tour at $80. No matter which tour you take you must pay an extra $8 daily entrance fee to the Navajo land. We weren't disappointed with the afternoon's tour and the rich colours and contrasts of the rock formations inside. Bonnie directed our every move - telling everyone what angles and scenes to shoot on the way in, but encouraged us to do our own free shots on the way back. The dark lighting conditions were challenging to photograph (especially to an amateur like me.) No flash or tripod allowed. Only the photographer tour is allowed tripods (no one is allowed to use flashes.) On the practical side there is little to no room to set up a tripod with all the tours coming and going. The solution - increase the ISO settings on the camera! The suggested 800 ISO didn't cut it - I had to go as high as 1600 ISO for the F-stop setting of 11 on my Nikon. The go pro camera I wore on my head did pretty good, but it didn't capture the richness of colours like my Nikon did.
