What you should know about Daan Kleijn:
Daan Kleijn, born in the Dutch village Peize close to Groningen, started studying jazz guitar in the age of 17 at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen, the Netherlands. The most important teachers at the PCC for him were guitarists like Winfred Burna, Frank Wingold and Freddie Bryant, next to Mark Gross and Alex Sipiagin. I met Daan for the first time during a project of Brazilian pianist Alex Corrêe six years ago. And just this year in 2019 I got the chance to talk with him in my livingroom in that period, where he was performing at the Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival in Groningen.
After his Master study at the New York University he decided to stay and make a living from his widely respected art. Nowadays he works as a jazz guitarist and educator next to the United States in Europe and Asia. With his European trio he published 2 albums, the first one in 2013 (Trio) and the new one just last year (Passages), featuring Tobias Nijboer on double bass, Joost van Schaaik on drums and himself on guitar. In New York he's working now with a new trio feat. his former teacher Sam Yahel on organ.
