Best Sydney Parks's video: Explore the network of tunnels and gun emplacements 1870-1942 - Middle Head Fortifications - Mosman

The Middle Head Fortification is set up as a defense against enemy ships trying to enter Sydney Heads. Most of the fortifications were built between 1870 and 1911. Its a great place for teens to explore, but you still need to keep an eye on them. Check out the network of linking tunnels and the remains of old gun batteries unfortunately a lot of tunnels are locked up, probably accessible through their guided tours. I would love to know the time when each section was built, probable the sandstone construction was in 1870. Would love to see the Tiger Cages used to train troops during the Vietnam War but the entrance was locked to that tunnel. There should be more signage explaining the sight. The only cost is parking and can be quite expensive as there are not many spaces. We headed down to Cobblers Beach but turned around after reading it was part nudist. Toilets are available, no shops in the area so pick up something before you get there. Anyway excellent views of the sea, enjoy your day.
