I was 17 years old when my paths crossed with the hip-hop world and I was instantly captivated. Hi, I am Kiran Gholap, a.k.a. Rapper KG. I belong to Kosamba, Gujarat, a small town near Surat where I completed my studies before moving to Mumbai in 2017. I used to listen to a lot of underground artists and other rappers, which really moved me. The way they shared their stories inspired me to share mine. I remember what my bhaiya once said to me, "Khudka bhale kaise bhi ho, khudka hota hai," that day I realized what I was missing. I felt compelled to write my own raps and I felt this fire inside of me. I began making my own videos and started recording everything from my phone. It was just the beginning, but I knew I needed something better. When I came to Mumbai, I luckily found a studio near my house. I wrote my first rap, "Zindagi”, and recorded my first rap there, which was released on March 19th, 2017. I felt goosebumps as I knew I was one step closer to my goal. Normal is boring. “Mein chahta hu ki log mujhe sune, acchese sunne, mere pass alfaaz kaafi hai bayan karne ko”. My peers at Big Bazaar have been a strong support system for me. My store manager, Mr. Mukul, recently invited me to write a rap honouring our team's triumph in a recent store competition called "Halla Bol”. Mukul sir played my rap in the store and I have never felt better. The response from the public that I get when I rap is something that keeps me going. Rapping is my passion, my burning desire, and I urge people to do things that make them feel alive. I have been asked how I balance work and my art, and yes, it gets busy. My work starts at 1 pm and goes on till 10 pm. I don't get that much time, but I keep writing as I keep on observing things in my surroundings. I always have a notepad with me. Real-life inspires my raps. I'm currently a member of the "D Mafian Crew," and I feel like I'm getting closer to my ambitions, every day.
