Bill Russo's video: The Lawless Years - The Immigrant 1959 S1 E 2

The Roaring 20s (the ones from the 1900s, not the 2000s) come to life again in “The Lawless Years”. Gravel voiced James Gregory (Detective Frank Luger in the 1975 to 82 Barney Miller series) stars as the real-life NYPD cop, Barney Ruditsky. Ruditsky was a celebrity officer who was involved in dozens of high-profile cases and was credited with breaking up ‘Murder Incorporated’. After he left the force, Ruditsky went to Hollywood and worked on many projects including The Lawless Years, to which he was a technical advisor. Season One – Episode 2: The Immigrant Clu Gulagher (The Killers, The Virginian and many other films and TV shows) stars as a teenage immigrant boy on the fringes of the mob. He’s handed a gun and under threat of harm to his Mom, he’s forced to pull a job. Ruditsky grabs two of Clu’s pals and threatens them with rubber hoses, clubs, and other assorted weapons and scares them in to telling where the job is going down. Virginia Christine plays the Mom. She had a lengthy acting career, but is best known as being Mrs. Olson in Folger Coffee commercials. Clu Gulagher, aged 92 at this writing, (2021) made a recent appearance on Eddie Muller's Noir Alley, to comment on his work in The Killers, (with Lee Marvin and Ron Reagan (40th President of the U.S. in later life). Clu said that the only time he ever played a villain in a film was in The Killers. In the 1970s Clu started a second career as a horror film star, most notably in John Russo's Return of the Living Dead. Russo started the whole living dead genre with his landmark book, which, along with George Romero, he turned into the Night of the Living Dead movie and seemingly dozens of sequels. This Lawless Years never really got off the ground and lasted for just 48 episodes – it predated “The Untouchables” by six months.
