Ananda Abinou, a colored boy, from a rural community of ex-slaves and their grandchildren, is said to have achieved spiritual enlightenment.
Choosing obscurity over fame, for nearly half a century Ananda taught in private gatherings. These recordings, collected from boxes and basements, in the Midwest and East Coast, chronicle the teachings of a southern man hailed as an authentic American buddha.
