A group of atomic bomb survivors was awarded the Peace Prize for their efforts to ban such weapons at a time nuclear rhetoric has reached post-Cold War peaks. The grassroots movement, Nihon Hidankyo, receives the prize “for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again,” the Oslo-based Nobel Committee said in a statement Friday.
