Inauguration of the exhibition “Being Oscar de la Renta” at Centro León The exhibition on the life and work of the Dominican designer will be open to the public through April 2020, at Centro León in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Santiago de los Caballeros, November 21st, 2019. – The Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation, Centro León and Grupo Puntacana launched the exhibition Being Oscar de la Renta, a tribute to the celebrated Dominican designer, with an inaugural event that included family members and representatives of the brand created by this Universal Dominican. “Today, Centro León becomes Oscar de la Renta, inviting everyone who passes by to meet the legacy of a one of a kind man who knew how to interpret his culture and who would go on to restructure it along with the cultures he was getting to know, becoming a citizen of the world, from the world, and for the world”, said María Amalia León de Jorge, President of Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation. On behalf of Grupo Puntacana, Haydée Kuret de Rainieri said that this exhibition is not just about the famous and international Oscar, or the artist who could exchange with kings or first ladies, presidents, and celebrities; "It's also about the Oscar that loved people, loved to share with others, who enjoyed and was proud of being Dominican." “At his core, Oscar was a Dominican. He, in his professional life went to France, and he went to Spain and his fashions took him on journeys to Russia, well down the Silk Road. Wherever he was, however far away, he was never far from here”, said Alex Bolen, CEO Oscar de la Renta. Fashion, philanthropy and “dominicanidad” The exhibition is a part of Centro León’s Outstanding Masters program. It consists of five spatial moments showcasing the different dimensions of Oscar de la Renta as a human being and as a professional in his field. These spatial moments are divided as follows: Oscar is celebrated; Oscar Renta Fiallo is Oscar de la Renta; The atelier: everything is inspiration; I’m just an island boy: Oscar is transnational, and The Essences of a legacy: Being Oscar de la Renta. 50 original dresses by the designer are exhibited in the Temporary Exhibition Room at Centro León. Some were created for international public figures such as Hillary Rodham Clinton, Laura Bush, Barbara Pierce Bush, Sarah Jessica Parker, Oprah Winfrey and Taylor Swift. Others were made for Dominican personalities close to the designer. Additionally, the exhibition includes documents and objects, personal photos of the designer, 60 magazine and book covers, video interviews with family members and personalities from the worlds of politics, art and culture close to Oscar de la Renta, cameras and accessories from the Eduardo León Jimenes Collection of Ethnography, and artworks from private collections from both national and international institutions.
