Two days after the 2020 election, a Canadian tourist skateboarded into my sweatshop. At first, I assumed he was sweating more than me because he was ANTIFA or something. Then I realized he was genuinely turned-on by our ridiculous political t-shirts. We got to talking. Turns out, the skateboarder I misjudged as ANTIFA had more in common with Proud Boys. And when I pressed him on who he was and what he was doing, he told me that his name’s “ZU” for short, and that he’s from Montreal. He said he just wanted to be here in the states during this pivotal presidential election. He told me about how he follows US politics from afar, and how he admires President Trump. That really struck me as “odd” (for lack of a better word, even though it shouldn’t be), since he identified himself as someone from a Muslim background, although non-practicing. At that point, I was intrigued and wanted to know more. But why waste the discussion on thin air? So we decided to record a podcast.
