Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai - A Life Story Anupam Kher is one of India’s most diverse actors, playing villainous, dramatic and comedic characters with equal ease. His background in theater has certainly helped him understand and get into the skin of every character he portrays, so much so that even in his worst performance he tends to be rather convincing! His acting prowess is legendary and is evident on screen where he truly owns the space as seen from his roles in Saaransh, Karma, Rang de Basanti, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and more. He is at ease in both independent and commercial cinema, which is rather rare particularly in the Indian film industry. We have known him as this versatile actor in a career that spans 499 films (and counting) over three decades, a staggering achievement in itself! Thus, it is safe to say that watching and interacting with him live is an opportunity few would want to miss. Indeed the audience will not be disappointed. In a ten-minute interaction before the play he will walked through the spectators obliging them with a chance to get up-close and personal with him and show their appreciation. This will be the beginning of a rather different theater experience. Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai (Anything can happen) is a one-man autobiographical show. Kher delights us in playing over 120 characters pivotal to his life over the play’s two hour and 15 minute duration. The mind boggles to think how he juggles so many characters on stage all by himself! There are stories of happiness, sadness, failure, triumph, love and heartbreak. The play gives us a glimpse into the actor’s life from both before and during his time in the Indian Film Industry. He enacts nostalgic tales of school life, his time at the National School of Drama, his career and his relationships with his family, friends and partners. There are so many wonderful instances, particularly in the first half, where you are taken back to an India from a few decades ago. There is an innocence attached to that time and his life, which is wonderfully put forth. Humour and emotion aplenty keeps the audience connected, mesmerized and wanting to know how the rest of the play turns out! It is incredible that even after performing the same Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai play more than 300 times over the last decade, Anupam Kher is able to give such an energetic performance. There is no dearth of effort or the feeling that Kher is giving nothing but his best into every act. Nonetheless, Anupam Kher is wonderful in his enactment of his childhood to his days of immense success and bitter failure in the oscillating world of Indian Cinema. He reminds us that this is a place which can, overnight, make you a heady superstar or a ridiculed failure. Kher’s has also seen such similar highs and lows ranging from spectacular stardom to bankruptcy. His honest and entertaining take on both ends of the spectrum is definitely inspiring. There is no denying that his journey has been truly remarkable and to bare your soul to an audience of complete strangers cannot be easy. Moreover, to be able to break down the wall between celebrity and common man and have such an intimate connection with the audience will be an immensely special and unique experience.
