I am not a certified financial advisor IG: @josh.tope This is your 3rd stimulus check update and stimulus package update for Thursday, February 26th. The house is voting on the stimulus package today, and it's expected to pass. The bill would provide the $1400 stimulus check, monthly child tax credits, and a minimum wage increase to $15 per hour, among other things. However, last night we received word that the Senate parliamentarian ruled against including minimum wage in the relief bill. We had been waiting on the Senate parliamentarian's opinion, and now we have an answer. President Biden is not in favor of overruling the Parliamentarian. In a statement from the Whitehouse, "President Biden is disappointed in this outcome, as he proposed having the $15 minimum wage as part of the American Rescue Plan, He respects the parliamentarian's decision and the Senate's process." The good news is that stripping the minimum wage provision will make it easier for the Senate to pass the bill. Raising the minimum wage caused contention; even democrats such as the senator or Arizona and West Virginia were not supportive of the idea. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi did say that the minimum wage provision will remain in the stimulus bill for the vote today. However, due to the Parliamentarian's ruling, the Senate will have to strip the minimum wage provision out, and then the house will have to pass that bill again at the end of the process. Chuck Schumer, leader of the Democrats, said, "We are deeply disappointed in this decision; we are not going to give up the fight to raise the minimum wage to $15 to help millions of struggling American workers and their families. The American people deserve it, and we are committed to making it a reality." Burnie Sanders made a statement as well, saying, "I strongly disagree with tonight's decision by the Senate Parliamentarian, The (Congressional Budget Office) made it absolutely clear that raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour had a substantial budgetary impact and should be allowed under reconciliation." Later in the statement, Bernie says he will work with other Senate Democrats on an amendment to take tax deductions away from large, profitable corporations that don't pay workers at least $15 an hour. There's no doubt this news will delay getting the stimulus package passed quickly, but what do you expect? It's congress! The stimulus will pass the house today or tomorrow if delayed, and then it will proceed to the Senate. The deadline is coming up quickly: March 14th, the date federal unemployment benefits expire. Can congress get it done? I will keep you in the loop; make sure you subscribe to stay updated and drop a like if this video was helpful. Enjoy the rest of your day, and stay safe, everyone!
