23/4/2023 Sunday; Roy Emerson Way, Statue, Gardens, and Roy Emerson Museum, at Blackbutt were all promoted on ABC Australia all over with Ian McNamara. Roy Emerson Museum Complex It is possibly one of the smallest museums you could visit, but the little building at Blackbutt, proudly boasts a museum to Roy Emerson, who was born at a nearby Nukku back in 1936. While his family moved to Brisbane some years later, the folk at Blackbutt have never let anyone forget that he came from their town. Roy "Emmo" Emerson was a 6 foot tall tennis player who became one of Australia's most successful and exciting sportsman in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a member of a record number of eight Davis Cup winning teams from 1959 to 1967. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame back in 1982, and the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1986. (Source Wikipedia.) Read about his impressive career here. In 2015, the former Milton Tennis Centre was named the Roy Emerson Tennis Centre. He now lives in the USA, however, he was at the opening.
