As a former middle distance and cross-country collegiate athlete, breathing was very important during my training and meets. Proper Breathing For Running: Inhale through you nose and exhale from your mouth using a "HE" formation of the lips. This formation keeps the face muscles relaxed for a nice easy run. If you feel winded or having a hard time catching your breath, take a LONG-DEEP inhale through your nose and let it SLOWLY through your mouth...using the same "HE" shape with your mouth. Repeat 3 times or until your breathing clams down. Your breathing and running should sync together. Keep form while running and your breathing will fall in line with the rhythm of your body. I even use the same breathing practice when I feel stressed or overwhelmed...helps me think clearly again.
