A Day Alone in Rome: Prior to meeting up with my Contiki Simply Italy Group at 4pm 18/09/16, I travelled to Rome a day early (due to flight times) & spent a night in my favourite hostel chain at their newest location; Generator Hostel Rome which was only a 6 minute walk from Rome main train/bus station Termini. I got to experience flying Club Class with British Airways from LHR - FCO. I am an executive club cardholder and redeemed my points for this flight but I would fly Club every time just to get afternoon tea in the sky! As a child I watched a movie on the Disney channel called The Lizzie McGuire movie & this is the reason I wanted to visit Rome... It wasn't what I expected! I did not expect 20+ homeless people on the streets next to one of the 7 wonders of the world!! Stop 1: Colloseum Stop 2: Altare Della Patria Stop 3: Trevi Fountain Stop 4: Pantheon Stop 5: Spanish Steps Stop 6: Polo Hotel to meet Contiki I gave up walking at the Spanish steps and paid 1.50euro for a one way on the metro from Spagna - Euclide. The Rome metro system and lines are no where near as advanced as the likes of Paris or London. What should've been a simple connection between the red line and the grey line took 25 minutes because a) it was not sign posted upon exit of the red line & b) it did not tell you on the metro map that you have to exit the metro station turn right and walk straight for 5 minutes before you reach the grey line station!! I finally found this out when I found someone who spoke English; a true Italian speaks NO English. Travel Tip: In Rome... WALK!
