@Be Aware of Thoughts by Venerable Ajahn Kittiched Siriwattago
When we enter this place, be mindful, do not neglect our mind. Many people neglect their mind. Never practice. The mind wanders. Some people feel sleepy. Practicing the mind is important, try to be mindful all the time. When one is not mindful, absent-minded, defilement enters. Suffering, sadness will enter our mind. When not having mindfulness, one will think a lot. Desolate. It is different from emptiness. The desolate mind. No destination. It is like a boat that does not have a rudder. It is like a person who drives continuously and aimlessly without knowing where to go, no destination. Feel tired of life. Cannot find real happiness. (Even some) had already been ordained. Many people have been my students for a long time. But, still neglect the mind. Not having enough perseverance. But, newcomers, some people met, they paid attention, they are near the truth. Many people are careless. They still enjoy this world. But, not stressful, not that serious till you are crazy. No. Commit to our mindfulness. Live in the present moment. Be aware of ourselves. Especially our thoughts, our emotions. Whatever happens, know it. Whatever arises, know it. Do not create anything in the mind (mental formation) or go along with it. It will be extinguished. The rule of Tilakkhana (the three characteristics of existence) impermanence, state of suffering and state of being not self. It will understand all the time. There is no suffering. Although there is, it is nothing. The mind does not suffer, the mind is not an unwholesome one. Rarely focusing on negativity or scolding others. It tortures the mind. It used to happen, and one scolded immediately. It stops. Stop, know the mindfulness. Know the thought, the emotion that is unsatisfied. Then, fix it. Not let it have more power than our mind that used to have metta (loving kindness). Our mind which used to be clean. It will not be dirty, not to be sad with our emotions that are unwholesome, everything. Sulking, comparing. It is not ours. If we practice, we will be aware of everything. It is up to us whether we will follow it or not. It is like it has more power than us. It pulled us until we followed it, for example, a friend told us to take drugs together. We said “we are not going”. It is not useful. It is not good for our body. It tries to persuade us until our mind becomes weak. It can make us think accordingly. At the end, we have to take drugs, if it is a drug that makes us crazy, we will be crazy following them. One thought, one emotion, sometimes it is like that bad friend who tries to pull us to go down. One moment of the mind, one mindfulness. It is like how we will handle it. That we will not follow because our mind has white and black all the time. We will let our white to lead our life or the black one to lead our life. If the white one leads our life, we will be comfortable, have only happiness. If the black one leads our life, we will be terrible. It is like merit and demerit. White is like a merit. The black one is like a demerit. Honestly, many people came here once and changed completely. And, try to improve themselves all the time. But, there are people who have been my students for a long time. They do not allow themselves to change. May be worse than before. Get angry more than before until I wonder whether he/she practiced or not. Or just come for a balm (to relief from). Headache, fever, (he/she) has a fever someday. When he/she goes back, he/she does not take medicine. So, he/she is still sick, metaphorically. When will we recover? To get back to normal. Who understands this? Raise your hand.
