Burnet Institute's video: The case for a hepatitis C vaccine

@The case for a hepatitis C vaccine
Burnet's Professor Heidi Drummer examines why a vaccine is essential in achieving and maintaining the elimination of hepatitis C around the world. Direct-acting antivirals (DAA's) have made hepatitis C treatment a less arduous process and mean that many have been cured of the virus. However, Professor Drummer suggests a vaccine is needed to avoid reinfection of at-risk individuals who have been cured of hepatitis C. She also argues that this reduces the potential impact of drug-resistant strains. Development of an effective vaccine is difficult due to the number of strains of hepatitis C. However, Professor Drummer's team have a promising hepatitis vaccine candidate and are looking to advance their research to the next stage. Burnet Institute is an Australian, unaligned, not-for-profit, independent organisation that links medical research with practical action to help solve devastating health problems. This sets us apart from other organisations. Find out more at https://burnet.edu.au/
