Took me way too many attempts to get a clean-ish run and even this I'm only grudgingly satisfied with. You don't need Mighty at all, I'm just using him because his ground slam is incredibly useful for arresting your momentum when the game is trying to bounce you around. If you fall off the top route going for the last ring, you can still get it with some backtracking. Or just use Tails.
