Original Butter Chicken | First & Best Butter Chicken from Moti Mahal Restaurant Delhi Moti Mahal in Daryaganj, Delhi, was founded by Kundan Lal Gujral, Kundan Lal Jaggi and Thakur Dass as one of the first restaurants to introduce the Punjabi cuisine to the rest of the world. After the partition of India in 1947, the three partners fled to Delhi with their families. In Delhi, they bought a thara (booth) in the Daryaganj area, then considered a newer part of Old Delhi and then they started Moti Mahal restaurant. In 1991, Vinod Chadha took over Moti Mahal, renovated the eatery, standardised the dishes in the menu and today, Moti Mahal is well- known for it’s butter chicken, tandoori chicken, dal makhani, mutton burra, murgh mussalam and several other dishes. The restaurant has been visited by many celebrities and celebrity chefs like Gordon Ramsay. Today Moti Mahal is synonym for butter chicken!
