EIN NEUES LIED« — 800 JAHRE THOMANA Aus der Begegnung Johann Sebastian Bachs mit der Schola Thomana resultierte ein musikhistorischer Impuls, der weit aber den heutigen Tag hinaus Wirkung zeigt: Nicht allein die 800 Jahre währende Tradition der Thomaskirche, Thomasschule und des Thomanerchores, nicht allein Werk und Wirken Johann Sebastian Bachs, und nicht allein die in Leipzig des 19. Jahrhunderts auf blühende Rezeptionsgeschichte Bachs, sondern alles zusammen bewirkt die Faszination. die vom Thomaskirchhof in Leipzig heute in alle Weit ausstrahlt. Als ein Höhepunkt im Schaffen Bachs und verbunden mit dem Streben nach Neuem Im Glauben, in der Musik und in der Erziehung symbolisiert die Motette »Singet dein Herrn ein neues Lied« im Bachfest diese günstige Konstellation. Das Bachfest 2012 beleuchtet die Amtszeit Bachs aus den verschiedenen historischen Perspektiven. In deren Zentrum das Werk Bachs steht. Von Georg Rhau (Thomaskantor 1518-1520) bis Georg Christoph Biller (Thomaskantor seit 1992) reicht das überlieferte kompositorische Werk der Thomaskantoren, das wir im Programm des Bachfestes zusammengestellt haben. Darunter ist nicht nur eine Uraufführung des amtierenden Thomaskantors, sondern Sie finden auch neu edierte und erstmals wieder aufgeführte Werke von Johann Kuhnau und Johann Adam Hiller. Weltbekannte Interpreten wie Massaki Suzuki, Marcus Creed, Ton Koopman oder The English Concert nehmen Sie in den historischen Leipziger Spielstatten mit auf die Entdeckungsreise nach dem jeweils »neuesten Lied» einer 800-jähringen Musiktradition. »... EIN NEUES LIED« — 800 YEARS OF MUSIC AT ST. THOMAS' Johann Sebastian Bach's encounter with the Schola Thomana gave impetus to the history of music the effects of which are still felt today and will continue into the future: it is not just the 800-year history of St. Thomas', its school and choir, nor just the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach, nor just the story of the reception of Bach which started to blossom in nineteenth-century Leipzig, but all these things together which generate the power of fascination which today St. Thomas' in Leipzig exercises worldwide. As a climax of Bach's achievement, with its associations of a striving for novelty in faith, music and education, during the Bachfest the motet "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied" - "Sing to the Lord a new song" - will act as a symbol of this fortunate constellation. The Bachfest 2012 will shed light on Bach's time as cantor from all kinds of historical perspectives, all of which will be centred on Bach's work. The works by cantors of St. Thomas' which have come down to us range from pieces by Georg Rhau (cantor of St. Thomas' from 1518 to 1520) to Georg Christoph Biller (cantor of St. Thomas' since 1992) and these we have brought together in the Bachfest programme. They Include not only the premiere of a work by the current cantor of St. Thomas' but also first performances of new editions of works by other cantors of St. Thomas', Johann Kuhnau and Johann Adam Hiller.
