The choral piece "Dormi, Jesu" was written in 1999 by John Rutter (*1945) for the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, and its former Director of Music Sir Stephen Cleobury (1948-2019) 🎵 for performance during the college’s Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols which is broadcast around the world on Christmas Eve. Its sung here by the Wells Cathedral Choir under the leadership of its Director of Music Jeremy Cole 🎶. The words of Dormi, Jesu (also known as The Virgin’s Cradle Hymn) come from a German print depicting the Virgin Mary which was discovered by the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
