ARCHER-American Romanian Coalition for Human and Equal Rights is excited to announce the virtual educational conference "Women's Voices - Global Writers in Dialogue". We would like to welcome our guest speakers Pakistani-American novelist Sorayya Khan and Romanian-American playwright and poet Saviana Stănescu. Sorayya Khan and Saviana Stanescu will read excerpts from their work, followed by a conversation about their inspiration, joys, and challenges as transnational (multicultural) women, writing at the intersection between the personal and the political. The conversation is moderated by Mihaela Campion, clinical psychotherapist, and Creative visionary of ARCHER- a group of enthusiastic professionals and grassroots anti-discrimination activists. Sorayya Khan is the author of the novels, Noor, Five Queen’s Road, and City of Spies which received the Best International Fiction Book Award, Sharjah International Book Fair, 2015. She was awarded a US Fulbright Research Grant to conduct research in Pakistan and Bangladesh and has received a Malahat Review Novella Prize. Her work has appeared in several anthologies and publications including Guernica, Longreads, The Kenyon Review, North American Review, and Journal of Narrative Politics. She guest-edited a recent issue of Papercuts, an online literary journal initially focused on South Asia. She lives in Ithaca, New York with her family, and is currently at work on a memoir. www.sorayyakhan.com Saviana Stanescu is a cutting-edge Romanian playwright, poet, and ARTivist based in New York/Ithaca. Her US plays include Aliens with extraordinary skills, Ants, White Embers (all published by Samuel French), Useless, Toys, For A Barbarian Woman, Lenin’s Shoe, Waxing West (New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Play), What Happens Next, Bee Trapped Inside the Window, Zebra 2.0. Honors include Fulbright, Indie Theatre Hall of Fame, Indie Theatre Person of the Year, NYSCA playwright-in-residence, writer-in-residence for Richard Schechner's ECA, Audrey Residency, John Golden Award for Playwriting, KulturKontakt artist-in-residence, Marulic Prize for Best European Radio Drama, Best Romanian Play of the Year UNITER Award. Saviana's plays have been developed/produced at Women’s Project, La MaMa, 59E59, NYTW, EST, HERE, New Georges, Lark, Cherry, Civic Ensemble, Teatro La Capilla, Teatrul Odeon, etc. MA in Performance Studies, MFA in Dramatic Writing - New York University.
