He stepped into my little apartment bedroom studio with that same Youngbloodz swag I had always been a fan of, but neither of us had any idea the mark that night would make on the rest of our lives. We both were pulling ourselves through some pretty difficult losses, and the pain just spilled out onto the record. As we ran the final take I sunk back in my chair. I can feel the chills. I remember thinking to myself; “This is the first song Sean Paul has ever cried on.” It was in that moment we both knew we had something special. On June 30th 2020, Sean lost his mother to Dementia. One month later we rode across the country to scatter her ashes in the mountains of Colorado... Mama Faye’s Last Ride. I may never be able to fully tell anyone how much making this video meant. To be there with my brother in these last moments. To capture it on film for him to look back on when that pain from her loss sinks back in. To let this song that was born out of Pain over a decade ago, be reborn today as a living memorial to Mama Faye’s amazing legacy of love, and be a constant reminder to all that loved her that she’s in a better place, looking down and smiling as we finish our the rest of our journey.
