The new NASA Moon to Mars initiative is working with international partners to place human ‘boots on the Moon’ to demonstrate and prepare technologies for future human missions to Mars. Finding and using water ice on the Moon can be of great benefit for this, providing water to drink, air to breathe, and propellants for exploring the Moon, returning to Earth or going on the Mars, saving enormous costs that would otherwise be involved in bringing these materials from Earth.
