CSXACe's video: Delaware-Lackawanna: ASLRRA Excursion The Pocono Express

With fall foliage at its peak this past weekend, we planned a railfanning trip that would be like nothing we have ever done before. We decided a trip to the famed railroad town of Scranton, PA was in order. This decision was based on the fact that The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) was holding a special excursion for their members on the Delaware-Lackawanna's Pocono Mainline. The excursion was a 64 miles roundtrip traversing through some of the most scenic areas on the Pocono Mainline. Contrary to the Moscow Excursion trains that depart from the station in Steamtown, this train would be picking up its passengers and departing from the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel. Another unique aspect of this train was the power; the train was not to be powered by the Lackawanna F3's, but by engines from the Delaware-Lackawanna's ALCO fleet. The train would run with DL 3643 an M-636, and DL 405 a C-420 both in the GVT Corporate paint scheme. As well as having interesting power the train would feature a unique string of coaches, a diner car, and a private car supplied by the Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society. The chase as a whole was incredible, the weather was perfect and we had filmed the train at all of the desired spots along the line. Needless to say I'll be returning to the Delaware-Lackawanna sooner rather than later to film their freight operations on the Pocono Mainline.
