CSXACe's video: Outlawed NYS W WS-5 Chase: Leased Power in Full Force

As a result of the SU-99 detouring down NJT Friday night the Sparta local ran a few hours later than normal causing them to outlaw on their return to Ridgefield Park. The train had sat in West Milford, NJ for most of the weekend with a re-crew scheduled to pick up the train Sunday morning. With the NS 5288 being in the lead I saw this as the prefect opportunity to catch a GP38-2 leading a local outside of the yard limits, so we set out to chase this train the following. We arrived at Echo Lake Road just shy of 7:00 on Sunday and noticed a cop sitting next to the 5288. I thought someone might've vandalized the engine but the engine mechanic later informed me that the engine had dumped its water and wouldn't be able to power the train. He also told me that the crew had gone on duty around 6:55 and had to work 4th Ave. in Paterson before they would head up to West Milford to bring the local back to Ridgefield Park. With the sun sitting low in the sky it was difficult to find a well lit spot, but we settled on Matthew's Ave because we were afraid of missing the train while traveling elsewhere. After this shot we had the sun in our favor for most of the Eastbound trip back. Before the actual chase begins you will see NS 5291 hook up to the freight and shortly thereafter pull away with the train. The train had only one stop to make en-route to Ridgefield Park and that was Kuiken Brothers in Midland Park, so we had a real tight chase on our hands as 2 engines would handle the 11 cars no problem. In the end I was really pleased with how the day turned out as I really didn't think I'd be able to chase this train. Lastly I'd like to give a shout out to the crew for being so friendly everywhere we saw them! On a side note I have plenty of film from our recent Altoona trip, I will be compiling them into one video that has the best catches, be on the lookout for that in the next week or two.
