@Wilderness OFF GRID Living - OUR STORY - Off Grid Cabin Homestead TINY HOME? Cabin Life EP 112
From living 'on grid' to 'off grid' in an instant - Glenn and Maureen share their story and experiences while taking a break during their hike through the woods on their 40 acre homestead, with their Labrador Retriever, Jake, in the wilderness of Ontario Canada. From being thrown into living in a van full time, to living in an RV, living off grid in a wilderness cabin, and how they adapted to living a minimalist lifestyle through a frigid Canadian winter. While telling their 'wilderness off grid living' story, Glenn and Maureen discuss 5 tips to help others who are considering moving from on grid to an off grid lifestyle Whether it's in a small cabin, or off grid tiny home, there are many choices to be made. They talk about the importance of knowing why you want to move off grid, and chasing a dream, not a fantasy. They share what they consider 5 essential points that will help moving from on grid to off grid. Glenn talks about being prepared for a self reliant lifestyle, and wilderness off grid living and tiny home living, assessing personal strengths and weaknesses, and what you can do on grid to learn what will suit you best as you prepare and transform from an 'on grid' to an 'off grid' life. Glenn and Maureen give some good advice, including a reminder that what is good for one person, may be less suitable for others, and the importance of knowing what your comfort level is. Chasing your dream is rewarding, but not always lollipops and roses. Enjoy your journey - chase your dream with a good plan. Living in a small cabin or an off grid tiny home may be right for you, and one never really knows til one experiences it for oneself. Off grid living is not easy, but it can be as simple as one wants it. Even off grid homesteading is a choice not to be taken lightly, as the bigger the footprint the larger the infrastructure. The minimalist lifestyle isn't for everyone, but there is a whole range of experiences to have when living out the off grid homestead and cabin lifestyle. They talk about being forced to live out of their van for weeks as the winter approached, before moving into an unheated RV, and facing the challenges of living off grid during a cold winter in Ontario Canada. Their dream of living on a remote wilderness homestead kept them going through the trying times of keeping warm, living with only their camping gear, until moving into their small, warm off grid cabin. Glenn and Maureen both love vamping (camping from their van) - travelling to remote camping areas in Ontario to record the natural soundscapes of Northern Ontario including wilderness areas near Algonquin Provincial Park. Although it prepared them for living in the van, both admit they were not prepared for camping in the winter months, and how they adapted to a minimalist off grid lifestyle.
