@Chromecast w/ Google TV vs. Apple TV 4K (Gen 2): Is the huge price difference warranted?
Apple TV is faster and has nice iPhone integration, but you probably want Chromecast. Apple TV 4K: https://amzn.to/2Ujx9wZ Chromecast w/ Google TV: https://store.google.com/us/product/chromecast_google_tv?hl=en-US Blog Post: https://powermoves.blog/comparisons/chromecast-vs-apple/ Summary: After testing the new Chromecast with Google TV and Apple TV 4K for a couple of months, the answer of which one to get will be obvious for most: Chromecast. Chromecast is just $50, making it one of the best values in all of tech. It's the first Chromecast to come with a remote and have an interface on the TV Chromecast has an amazing "Watch Now" feature that takes all the content that you're watching from each of your streaming services and puts it into a unified list. When you tap on a show from the list, it brings you to the correct app and the correct episode. Apple TV has this feature too, but it doesn't work as well as Chromecast. Chromecast learns your preferences as you watch content and uses your Google search history to recommend new content in the "top picks for you" section. It has found some gems for me. Even if both devices were the same price, Chromecast would still be the better pick for most people. So why would anyone buy the Apple TV for $179? There are a few reasons why, but none of them are obvious. Apple TV gives you a more unified and polished playback interface. It has the speed and feel of an iPhone because it uses the same processing chip as iPhone Xs, making it way faster than Chromecast. Each app opens in a second or two, and it zips through the menus. Entering text and passwords is a breeze because the keypad on your iPhone pops up each time it's needed. Plus, if you have your passwords stored in iCloud, just use Face ID to have your password entered in the field automatically. Another thing to consider is privacy. Chromecast is a $50 device that comes from a company whose business model revolves around ads, while Apple profits from their devices and isn't in the ad business. While the Chromecast is currently ad-free, Google is definitely using your data to better target you with ads once you get back on the web. Better-targeted ads aren't always a bad thing, just keep it in mind. For me? I'm sticking with Apple TV as my primary streaming device. I use it as my HomeKit hub and appreciate the extra speed. But I love the Chromecast and will keep it in other rooms.
