@Amazon Halo Review: Solid Fitness & Sleep Tracker But I'm Selling It
Amazon Halo is a fitness band that doesn't do anything well. Amazon Halo: https://amzn.to/3cDVZOA FitBit Inspire 2: https://amzn.to/2MmAdED Apple Watch S3: https://amzn.to/3rnehrt Blog post: https://camsecore.com/reviews/halo/ My newsletter: https://camseco.re Follow me: https://twitter.com/camsecore Summary: Feature : Activity Halo is a fine fitness tracker. It uses your heart rate to determine your intensity, then awards you with points. You need 150 points for each week, which is very low and not customizable. Halo lacks giving you proper motivation like Apple Watch or Fitbit. I like that workouts are automatically logged. Unfortunately, you'll need to pay $4/month to get access to basic fitness features found free on Fitbit. Feature : Sleep Tracking Sleep tracking is Halo's best feature. It's not backed by science but I found it to be accurate. The downside is that it requires the $4/month subscription. Feature : Tone The Amazon Halo band has two always-listening mics that log interactions with people where you veered away from your baseline tone (either more happy or upset than usual). Nothing is recorded (good).Halo just lets you know how it thinks the interaction went. In real life, this feature is not practical. What am I supposed to do with this data if I can't remember the interaction by the time I check the app? In an ideal world, Halo shows you how you're perceived by others, then you can adjust your tone and improve your self-awareness. But people with tone issues, don't have the self-awareness to buy a device to fix their self-awareness. Who is this for? Monitoring our tone is a bad idea. And potentially dangerous. Striving to be kinder is a great goal, but it won't come from computers telling us how to act. Feature : Body To start a body scan, you stand in front of your phone’s camera and rotate your body four times, while the Halo app takes pictures of your body. This process is done while in your undies. Once complete, Halo creates a 3D model of your body and displays your body fat percentage. Amazon says the body fat percentage numbers are more accurate than a smart scale, but I found my smart scale to match it exactly. If you're tracking your weight loss or trying to bulk up and want to see how you've progressed, the 3D scans might be interesting. But body scans are not for those with body image issues.
