For a regular person who’s just trying to make healthy decisions, an in-depth device like Whoop is worth wearing for a few months to learn how much sleep, exercise, and consumption are optimal for your body each day. Once you’re conscious of how your body operates, you can probably manage your body’s needs without the Whoop. The Whoop Strap doesn't have a screen, which may be an advantage to some because it’ll eliminate potential distractions. Whoop has a great battery solution: five days of runtime and it can be charged while wearing it via the extra battery pack. I didn’t find Whoop’s day-to-day insights valuable because the data was inaccurate about 20% of the time. But after answering the daily questionnaire that asks about your consumption (late meals, caffeine, alcohol, marijuana, screen time, etc.) each morning, you’ll learn how each variable affects your sleep and recovery. Whoop costs $24/month when you pay annually, which breaks down to $576 for two years of ownership. (Twice the price of Apple Watch SE.) Apple Watch Apple Watch is the ultimate exercise and motivation tool. If you need an extra push to stay active, get an Apple Watch. The Apple Fitness app has a great interface for comparing and looking back at your workouts. Apple Watch assumes that your body is 100% healthy each day and expects you to perform without personalized goals. The screen on the Apple Watch lets you start your workout from your watch and check your stats during the session. Because of Apple Watch’s GPS and ability to store Apple Music, you can leave your phone at home for runs or bike rides. It has just a 30-hour battery runtime, so it’s not ideal for sleep tracking. Just stick to a charging routine, you should be fine. Apple Watch SE (my recommendation) is $279.
