@Apple Watch Series 3 vs. SE: Comparing Display, Battery, Speed, Storage, Features, & Appearance
Apple Watch SE is what you want, but can you get by with Series 3? Series 3: https://amzn.to/2GrZt9y SE: https://amzn.to/3lpxwOo Blog Post: https://camsecore.com/powermoves/3-vs-se/ Favorite Apple Watch Features: https://youtu.be/Y2POIHoSvB8 Series 6 vs. SE: https://youtu.be/yM1-A5Ih5FI Watch Band Comparison: https://youtu.be/fdRytuO6Qv0 Follow me: https://twitter.com/camsecore Summary: Screen The screen on Series 3 watches are smaller than later models, which is very obvious once you’ve used a bigger screen; peering at the smaller screen makes one yearn for data present on larger screens. However, if you’ve never owned an Apple Watch, you won’t notice the difference. The SE has the same casing as the 3, yet the SE’s screen is 30% larger, making fonts easier to read and allowing for more on-screen information. It’s likely that you’re going to get too familiar with the larger screen once you make the jump. But, most may want to hold-off on making the leap just for the larger screen itself. Insides The Apple Watch 3 is not as fast as the SE and can’t compete with the SE’s battery life. However, you should be able to get through an entire day with the 3 regardless of how you’re using it. Each new iteration of the Apple Watch is getting faster and it seems the software is playing a large role. Finally, Apple put a fast-enough processor in the S3 so the watch can perform as one would expect. The Series 3 has 8 GB of storage, which is enough for music playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks, yet not enough for an entire library. And, since the OS updates require storage, you may have to do some deleting of content to download the latest software. The SE’s improved processor provides better battery efficiency and makes tasks that are reliant on a processor work better. Also, wearers enjoy 4x the amount of storage! The SE’s S5 can be twice as fast than the S3 chip in the Series 3 Apple Watch. The most-noticeable difference is when multitasking; changing a song during exercising goes smoothly with the SE, yet doing so with the Series 3 can get wonky. Since the SE has 32 GB of storage, it’s likely you can load an entire music library on the Apple Watch without needing to use cellular data to stream. Similar to the larger screen, those who are accustomed to the “haptic feedback” of the SE’s Digital Crown will feel like something is missing from the Series 3. The SE’s speaker is louder and clearer than predecessors, yet the Bluetooth connection via the W3 wireless chip seems to have no noticeable difference to the S3’s W2 chip. Features The Series 3 Apple Watch has plenty of features but the SE has more unique ones. However, the software updates take 2x as long to download and install on the Series 3 as compared to later iterations. The Series 3 was launched in 2017 and has gone through 3 major updates. While Apple products are known for longevity, the Series 3 may be nearing the end of its time. The Apple Watch SE offers fall detection, noise monitoring, a compass, and an altimeter. But the ability to add cellular may be the watch’s most-important feature. You can add cellular service to the watch for $15/month (Add another $50 for the specific cellular watch.) Design You can get the Series 3 Apple Watch in two configurations: Silver-aluminum with white sport band or a space-gray-aluminum with black sport band. All Apple Watch bands are compatible with the Series 3 yet it will cost you an added $50 to buy colors other than black and white. The SE has a silver and space-gray-aluminum finish as well as a gold aluminum (not an option with Series 3). Choose from 29 different band options. The bands are noticeably thinner yet you may not consider this an advantage.
