And why not? It's a supremely versatile grape, used to produce absolutely delicious dry, off-dry, sparkling, and even dessert wines. Lot 722 is a beauty – elegant yet robust, made in a dry style with light oak influence and aged for five months sur lie. Pours a pale straw color in the glass, with a nose of bosc pears, apple cider, and orange blossoms with welcome hints of banana and barnyard. A wonderful viscosity retains the pear from the nose without being too oily on the palate, harmoniously accentuated by well-ingrained oak and butter with a mellow acidity. It finishes long – reminiscent of a great California Chardonnay with a richness that continues to waft waves of apples and pears.
