Manuel and Valente Valenzuela are U.S. war veterans facing deportation. Manuel volunteered for the Marines in 1971, and Valente volunteered for duty in 1965, and he was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. Both brothers were given an honorable discharge after serving a full term in Vietnam. In 2009 the Valenzuela brothers received letters from Homeland Security Department stating that the government was seeking to deport them for misdemeanor crimes they had committed decades earlier. The Valenzuela brothers are fighting for their right to remain in their country but also for their comrades. Hundreds of U.S. wars veterans are been deported from the United States. The Valenzuela brothers have started a movement to repatriate those U.S. soldiers and bring their families together. The Valenzuela brothers traveled to Washington, DC, and protested at the U.S. Congress and the White House in February 2011. They have spoken at colleges and other public places and have given countless news and radio interviews. The Valenzuela brothers will be traveling again to Washington D.C. in July 2011, where they are expected to meet with president Barack Obama. UPDATE: the Valenzuela brothers met briefly with Obama for a few seconds during the NCLR Annual Conference, but they didn't get a response about their cases.
