We love the deep litter method using hemp bedding because you can go a year or longer without cleaning out your henhouse. Your nose will tell you when you should add more hemp to your henhouse, not your eyes! Don't go by how it looks, because poop happens. Especially in your henhouse. When you start smelling that ammonia or chicken poop smell, then just sprinkle some more hemp on the top. An inch or two will do it. It will break down over time and if necessary you can add more for the next year or two.
