@Cheap Fakes, Deep Fakes and Democracy: Detecting Fakes Online with Tim Redmond
This presentation explores the prevalence of fake pictures, videos, and audio files on the internet as well as their implications for democracy. After examining several examples of photoshopped images and cheap fake and deepfake audio and video files, Redmond will provide a handful of tools that can be used to detect fake images and recordings online, thereby enabling us to become a more critically thinking citizenry. Timothy J. Redmond, who received his PhD in political science from the State University of New York at Buffalo, is an award-winning educator at Williamsville East High School and an adjunct professor at Daemen University. He is the author of over one hundred articles on critical thinking and politics as well as the book Political Tribalism in America: How Hyper Partisanship Dumbs Down Democracy and How To Fix It.
