CenterStudyVolcanoes's video: CSAV Hawaii: International Volcano Course

@CSAV Hawaii: International Volcano Course
CSAV began operations in 1990 by launching the International Training Program in Volcano Hazards Monitoring. It's designed for scientists and technicians from developing countries who work at volcano observatories, such as PHIVOLCS and CVGHM. This 6-week summer course is based out of the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Instructional staff include faculty from UH and scientists from the USGS. The training course helps the participants learn techniques for monitoring volcanoes, with lots of field practice on Kilauea. Consequently, when they return to their own observatories, they are better prepared to monitor the much more dangerous volcanoes found in their home countries (Misti, Mayon, Nevado del Ruiz, Nyiragongo.) We occasionally accept self-supporting trainees from developed countries, who have professional interest in and need for training in volcano hazards monitoring. However, most of the participants to the CSAV course come from countries that have limited funding for research and training. If you would like to contribute to the program, either through the Krafft Memorial Fund or the Robert Decker Memorial Endowment, you would be helping a participant from a developing country to attend the CSAV course, which would otherwise not be possible. Read more details about the course, and how to contribute to it, on our web site. For students in the USA, UK, Canada, and other countries, there is a different opportunity for you at CSAV. We offer a 3-week course, Field Methods in Volcanology (GEOL 471) in July - August each summer; the application process is highly competitive. See details at our web site. http://www.hilo.hawaii.edu/~csav/
