Abundant in tropical fish (and even eels), the Kapoho Tide Pools near Hilo, Hawaii, had long been considered one of the most beautiful places in the world to snorkel. On June 5, 2018, lava from Fissure 8 blanketed the local communities and poured into Kapoho Bay, filling the pools and extending nearly a full mile into the ocean. Our video at Kapoho Tide Pools was taken on May 12th, three weeks prior to this event.
