Literacy is the foundation for future economic success for youth, particularly in local mother tongues. This International Literacy Day, we are excited to share that in Goma in the North Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, through the ACCELERE!1 project, USAID and DFID co-developed the first-ever functional literacy modules in the local language of Kiswahili. Now, youth between 10 to 20 who have been impacted by regional instability can receive literacy classes at 25 centers before starting vocational programs of their choice, positioning them for future success.
