I believe that it was no mistake that Cumber reacted to Goku being a Super God the way he did. I believe it was hints at something concerning the history of The Super Saiyan God. Perhaps Yamoshi. While Cumber himself isn't canon, perhaps there were "Evil Saiyans" that truly existed in the past whom were the Saiyans Yamoshi became a Super Saiyan God to challenge. But by all means...
