AJMER (RAJASTHAN) TO ERNAKULAM (KERALA) : FULL TRAIN JOURNEY : 12978 AJMER - ERNAKULAM MARUSAGAR SUPERFAST EXPRESS : LOCOMOTIVE CHANGE FROM BGKT WDP4B TO BGKT WDP4D AT SAWAI MADHOPUR JUNCTION : LOCOMOTIVE REVERSAL AT SAWAI MADHOPUR JUNCTION : KONKAN RAILWAYS : INDIAN RAILWAYS. 12978/Marusagar SF Express (PT) مروساگر سُوپرفاسٹ ایکسپریس मरुसागर सुपरफास्ट एक्सप्रेस AII/Ajmer Junction -- ERS/Ernakulam Junction (South) The Marusagar Express is a weekly express train that runs between Ajmer and Ernakulam , connecting Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka to Kerala. The train runs through four zones of Indian Railways, travelling 2860 km in around 48 hours. There are 32 halts along the way. It starts from Ajmer on Friday morning and reaches Ernakulam Junction on Sunday early morning, and starts back to Ajmer on Sunday evening to reach Ajmer on Tuesday afternoon. Later after several demands the train was started on 4 September 2002 from Ratlam Junction, Madhya Pradesh to Mangalore Junction as 'Ratlam–Mangalore Superfast Express' with 10 AC coaches, 10 Sleeper, 2 General and 2 SLR coaches. Since, Ratlam was an intermediate station for Jaipur and Vadodara respectively and to avoid the changes made in the route of Ratlam–Mangalore Express, Later in year 2003 it got extended to Jaipur on one side and to Ernakulam on other side. From 2009 September onwards, the service of this train was extended up to Ajmer Junction. This train is in the "Superfast" category, and so has more importance than normal passenger and express train. The word "MaruSagar" essentially means "Desert-Ocean". The word "Maru" refers to the Thar Desert in Rajasthan and the word "Sagar" refers to the ocean (the Arabian Sea). Thus, the train connects the desert state of Rajasthan to the Arabian Sea coast in the West. It travels from Ajmer in Rajasthan to Kochi, in Kerala, passing through the towns of Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Nagda, Ratlam Junction, Vadodara, Panvel, Ratnagiri, Goa, Mangalore, Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur Junction and Thrissur on the way. The train runs hauls by a Bhagat Ki Kothi-based WDP-4 or WDP-4B or WDP-4D diesel locomotive on its entire journey. It has four branchings of broad-gauge lines to Beawar in south-west, Chittorgarh Junction in South, Phulera Junction in North and Pushkar Terminus in West. Ajmer Junction (station code: AII) is an important railway junction having five platforms and situated in the heart of the city. It is at an elevation of 464 metres (1,522 ft) and was assigned the code – AII. Other Suburban Station of Ajmer are Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz Madar Junction (MDJN), Daurai (DOZ), and Adarsh Nagar (AHO). It has a railway complex, which includes a major workshop. Initially it was built as a metre-gauge (MG) station with lines from Chittaurgarh Junction railway station, Ahmedabad Junction railway station, Phulera Junction railway station. In the 1990s, the Delhi–Jaipur line and Jaipur–Ahmedabad line were converted to broad gauge (BG). Then the station had a parallel BG – MG lines coming from north from Phulera Junction railway station, and after the station the MG line to Chittaurgarh crossed over to the Southeast side while the BG continued Southwest to Beawar railway station and Ahmedabad Junction railway station. Finally, somewhere in 2007, the line going toward Ratlam Junction railway station to Chittaurgarh was converted to BG. Ernakulam Junction railway station (also known as Ernakulam South, code: ERS) is the biggest railway station in the city of Kochi in Kerala, India. Controlling 376 train routes at a time, it is the busiest railway junction station in South India. It is the second largest in terms of passenger revenues in Kerala and the fifth largest in Southern Railway. It is an A1 classified station operated by the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and comes under the Thiruvananthapuram railway division. Ernakulam Jn was first opened as Ernakulam South in 1932 when the metre-gauge line then terminating at Ernakulam Terminus railway station (ERG). In 1956 the Ernakulam–Kottayam metre-gauge line was opened and further extended to Kollam in 1958, joining to the Kollam–Trivandrum line, connecting Ernakulam with Trivandrum for the first time. The coastal line to Alappuzha was opened in 1989. Ernakulam Jn is a railway junction with lines branching off from it to four different directions : North towards Chennai/Bangalore (via Palakkad) and Mumbai (via Shoranur–Kozhikode) South towards Thiruvananthapuram via Alappuzha–Kollam South-west towards Willingdon Island and Cochin Harbour Terminus (CHTS) East towards Thiruvananthapuram via Kottayam–Kollam
