It is currently the longest running daily Superfast train of Indian Railways (3027 km) and second longest daily train in country after Avadh Assam Express (3115 km). It is the second direct train to Kerala (1977) from the national capital Delhi after Jayanti Janata Express (1973) and first direct train connecting the state capital and Southern Kerala with New Delhi. The Kerala Express was introduced in 1977 as a split train named Kerala - Karnataka (KK) Express. The composition of Karnataka-Kerala Express has been increased from 14 coaches to 21 coaches with effect from 29 January 1981. Kerala Express since running independently, briefly had a slip service to Mangalore (1988 till 1993) where a portion of the train used to amalgamate/bifurcate at Palakkad Junction to run as 2625A/2626A Link Mangala Exp. This continued until Mangala Exp was made an independent train in 1993 numbered 2617/18. The train is running with LHB rakes with effect from 4 November 2018. On 10 June 2019, during the 2019 Indian heat wave, four pilgrims from Tamil Nadu died due to heat exposure in the Kerala Express as it traveled south through the Bundelkhand, before the train arrived at Jhansi Junction. 19578/Jamnagar - Tirunelveli Express (PT) જામનગર - તિરુનેલવેલી એક્સપ્રેસ जामनगर - तिरुनेलवेली एक्सप्रेस JAM/Jamnagar -- TEN/Tirunelveli Junction The 19577/19578 Jamnagar Tirunelveli Express is an express train operated by Indian Railways that runs between Jamnagar and Tirunelveli Junction in India. It operates as train number 19578 from Jamnagar to Tirunelveli Junction and as train number 19577 from Tirunelveli Junction to Jamnagar. The train has one air conditioned (AC) two-tier coach,two AC three-tier coaches, ten sleeper coach, six general unreserved coaches and two SLR. The 19578 service covers 2,593 kilometres (1,611 mi) in 49 hours 20 minutes at an average speed of 55.71 kilometres per hour (34.62 mph) and takes 48 hours at an average speed of 56.29 kilometres per hour (34.98 mph) as the 19577 service. As the average speed of the train is above 55 kilometres per hour (34 mph). Vatva based WDM-3D or WDP-4D hauls the train from Jamnagar to Mangaluru then Erode WAP-4 or WAP7 hauls the train from Mangaluru to Tirunelveli. The train departs Jamnagar every Friday and Saturday and arrives at Tirunelveli Junction at the third day. In return, the train departs Tirunelveli Junction every Monday and Tuesday and arrives the destination on the third day. It is the second largest railway station in Kerala in terms of area and tracks and one of the oldest railway stations in the state. World's second longest railway platform is situated at Kollam railway station. Kollam Junction lies on Kollam–Thiruvananthapuram trunk line. It is operated by the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and comes under the Thiruvananthapuram railway division. The annual passenger ticket revenue of Kollam railway station is ₹64.23 crore (equivalent to ₹73 crore or US$10 million in 2019) and 23,048 is the daily ridership through this station. It is one among the few railway stations in Kerala having two terminals with ticket counter facility. Three express trains have been originating from Kollam Junction railway station to South Indian cities of Chennai and Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam–Kollam Express (weekly), Anantapuri Express (daily) and Chennai Egmore–Kollam Junction Express (daily). There are 3 express train services originating from Kollam Junction, viz., Kollam–Visakhapatnam Express, Anantapuri Express and Kollam Junction–Chennai Egmore Express. The services connect Chennai Egmore and Visakhapatnam cities with Kollam. There are a total of 17 tracks in the Kollam railway station. The station has 6 platforms for handling long distance, passenger, MEMU & goods trains. The platform 1 is divided into two sections. Platform 1A handles the trains to Punalur–Sengottai line and platform 1 handles trains towards Trivandrum Central. The platform 1 and 1A together have a length of 1,180.5 m making them together the second longest railway platform in India. The station has an MEMU shed which is situated near to Platform 1A.
