The station is progressing by getting electrified and double-tracked with the addition of new platforms. Madgaon Junction falls under Karwar railway division of Konkan Railway in Goa. The South Western Railway's Guntakal–Vasco da Gama section and the Konkan Railway from Mumbai, Maharashtra to Mangalore, Karnataka pass through this junction. Madgaon railway junction in the state of Goa has direct rail connection with several major cities in India. All the major metropolitan cities of India, namely, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. The other cities of India, Bangalore, Miraj, Hubli, Mangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi (Ernakulam Junction), Surat, Vadodara, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Kota, Agra, Jhansi, Jabalpur, Bhopal, Gwalior, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Bhubaneswar, Udupi, Suratkal and Patna. Two Rajdhani Express, i.e., Trivandrum Rajdhani and Madgaon Rajdhani connect Madgaon Junction with Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station in New Delhi along with other trains like Mangala Lakshadweep Express, Kerala Sampark Kranti Express and Goa Express. Many trains including the Konkan Kanya Express, Mandovi Express, Matsyagandha Express, Netravati Express, Dadar–Madgaon Jan Shatabdi Express connect Madgaon to Mumbai. Chandigarh Junction railway station (station code:- CDG), serves the union territory city of Chandigarh. The station is at an elevation of 330.77 metres (1,085.2 ft) and was assigned the code – CDG. Chandigarh is amongst the top hundred booking stations of the Indian Railway. The Delhi–Panipat–Ambala–Kalka line was opened in 1891, and the Chandigarh–Sahnewal line (also referred to as Ludhiana–Chandigarh rail link) was inaugurated in 2013. Ambala–Chandigarh sector was electrified in 1998–99 and Chandigarh–Kalka in 1999–2000. Chandigarh railway station has computerized reservation facilities, General Railway Police outpost, telephone booths, tourist reception centre, waiting room, retiring room, vegetarian and non-vegetarian refreshment room, and book stall. In 2014, Chandigarh railway station got escalators. The railway station is 8 km from the city centre. The airport is 7 km. City buses, auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are available at the station for local transportation.
