BANIHAL TO SRINAGAR : FULL TRAIN JOURNEY : KASHMIR VALLEY TRAIN JOURNEY IN EXTREME SNOWFALL ( -6°C TEMPERATURE ) The Kashmir Valley, also known as the Vale of Kashmir, is an intermontane valley concentrated in the Kashmir Division of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The valley is bounded on the southwest by the Pir Panjal Range and on the northeast by the main Himalayan range. It is approximately 135 km (84 mi) long and 32 km (20 mi) wide, and drained by the Jhelum River. Kashmir is the northernmost geographical region of the Indian subcontinent. Until the mid-19th century, the term "Kashmir" denoted only the Kashmir Valley between the Great Himalayas and the Pir Panjal Range. Today, the term encompasses a larger area that includes the India-administered territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, the Pakistan-administered territories of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Chinese-administered territories of Aksai Chin and the Trans-Karakoram Tract. The word Kashmir is thought to have been derived from Sanskrit and was referred to as káśmīra. A popular local etymology of Kashmira is that it is land desiccated from water. In the Kashmiri language, Kashmir itself is known as Kasheer. Banihal–Baramulla DEMU is a DEMU passenger train of the Indian Railways, which runs between Banihal railway station and Baramulla railway station, having 17 halts both within Jammu and Kashmir. All sets of Banihal–Baramula DEMU runs with an average speed of 48 km/h and covers 135 km in 2 hrs 50 mins. While Baramula–Banihal DEMU runs with an average speed of 41 km/h and covers 135 km in 3 hrs 20 mins. There are 5 sets of trains which run on a daily basis. The important halts of the train are : Banihal Hiller Shahabad Qazigund Sadura Anantnag Bijbehara Panzgom Awantipora Kakapora Pampore Srinagar Badgam Mazhom Pattan Hamre Sopore Baramulla Banihal railway station (station code: BAHL), a part of Jammu–Baramulla line, is situated in notified area of Banihal in Ramban district, Jammu and Kashmir. It was commissioned on 26 June 2013 and passenger trains run from Banihal to Qazigund. The station was inaugurated by former prime minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on the same day at 2.22 pm. They enjoyed the 12-minute ride in train through Pir Panjal tunnel up to Qazigund the second longest in Asia. The station has been built as part of the Jammu–Baramulla line megaproject, intending to link the Kashmir Valley with Jammu Tawi and the rest of the Indian railway network. The railway network in Kashmir from Banihal to Baramulla is now 137 km. Five trains run daily from Banihal to Baramulla. The RL of the station is 1,702 m (5,584 ft) above mean sea level. Like all the other stations in this megaproject, this station also features Kashmiri wood architecture, with an intended ambience of a royal court which is designed to complement the local surroundings to the station. Station signage is predominantly in Urdu, English and Hindi. Srinagar railway station is a railway station of the city of Srinagar in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The station is part of the Jammu–Baramulla line and lies in Firozpur division, which once completed, will connect the city to the rail network of India. Currently, services are to Baramulla and Banihal. The railway line once fully completed is expected to increase tourism and travel to the Kashmir Valley. The work of last leg Chenab Bridge is in final stages and is expected to be completed by 2021. The station is also planned to be part of a second railway line, the Srinagar–Kargil–Leh line. The station has been built as part of the Jammu–Baramulla line megaproject, intending to link the Kashmir Valley with Jammu Tawi and the rest of the Indian railway network. The station, in Nowgam, is 8 km from the city centre. The main hub of stations in Kashmir Is Budgam stations and where all trains are being repaired or any other services. The Banihal-Qazigund Railway Tunnel or Pir Panjal railway tunnel is an 11.215 kilometres (6.969 mi) long railway tunnel located in Pir Panjal Range of middle Himalayas in Jammu and Kashmir, India, south of Qazigund town. It is a part of the Jammu–Baramulla line. For a short time, Banihal-Qazigund Railway Tunnel was India's longest railway tunnel. Once completed, the 11.55 km long rail tunnel between Senapati and Imphal West districts on Jiribam–Imphal line will surpass the Pir Panjal Railway Tunnel as India's longest tunnel. The rail tunnel reduces the distance between Quazigund and Banihal by 17 kilometres (11 mi) (from 35 kilometres (22 mi) by road to 17.5 kilometres (10.9 mi) by train).
