The much-awaited Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat Express train made its maiden journey Tuesday after the virtual inauguration of five such semi-high-speed trains by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bhopal. From Madgoan, the Vande Bharat train left at 11 am and reached Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai at 9.15 pm. The semi-high-speed train took 10 hours and 15 minutes on the inaugural day. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde welcomed the Vande Bharat train at the CSMT platform and thanked PM Modi. The Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat train halts at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Khed, Ratnagiri, Kankavali , Thivim & Madgaon. The fares between the two endpoints are Rs 1,815 for the chair car and Rs 3,360 for the executive chair car class (excluding GST). The train covers a distance of 586 km, the longest route covered by a Vande Bharat train in Maharashtra. The Central Railway said the Madgaon-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express will have a top speed of 120 km. It will help save about one hour of journey time when compared to Tejas Express, the current fastest train between the two places which takes over eight hours. This is the fourth Vande Bharat train from Mumbai and the fifth from the state. Currently, three Vande Bharat trains operate from the city – Mumbai-Solapur (400 km), Mumbai-Shirdi (340 km) and Mumbai Central-Gandhi Nagar (520 km). The other from Maharashtra is the Nagpur -Bilaspur Express (413 km). In monsoon, the Vande Bharat between Mumbai and Goa will run thrice weekly. From CSMT, the Vande Bharat train 22229 will depart at 5.25 am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and reach Madgaon at 3.30 pm. From Madgoan, Vande Bharat train number 22230 will leave at 12.20 pm every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and reach CSMT Mumbai at 10.25 pm. In non-monsoon seasons, the services will be available all six days a week except on Fridays for carrying on maintenance. The other four Vande Bharat trains introduced Tuesday are Rani Kamalapati-Jabalpur, Khajuraho-Bhopal-Indore, Dharwad-Bengaluru and Hatia-Patna. He reached Rani Kamalapati Railway Station in Bhopal around 10.30 am Tuesday to launch the five trains, taking the total number of Vande Bharat Express trains to 23. During monsoon, as a precautionary measure, the Konkan Railway has deployed as many as 673 personnel to patrol its route to prevent any casualty on tracks in the region, which receives heavy rainfall. The trains run on a restricted speed limit during heavy rains. As per the monsoon preparation media statement issued earlier by Konkan Railways’ Public Relation Office, it has cautioned that during heavy rain, when visibility is limited, loco pilots have been instructed to run trains at a reduced speed of 40 kmph. Therefore, although Vande Bharat has a 120-kilometre per-hour permissible speed limit, it will run on a restricted speed limit during monsoon.
