Chris Greacen's video: Bass Trap U2

For the Theme Music 2020 20/20 theme, I'm choosing this little throw-away U2 song which I imagine came from a session when the full band was recording The Three Sunrises (same key, similar guitar sounds, similar harmonic stuff) - maybe Bono was in the can and Adam was outside smoking a cigarette. The Edge had a few minutes to put down this little mood. The name is strange, but it's the sound that draws me into this song. It's moody with layers of sound - sub-tonic atop The tonic. A Bass Trap is not a sneaky way of having fish for dinner - it's a thing you'd find in the corner of a recording studio which is supposed to absorb bass frequencies so your recordings are clear. I originally intended to record this with a delay and a shimmer reverb to get close to the original, but I only had a looper handy and the Mel 9 for a string sound. I also intended to shoot an elaborate video featuring a bass (fish) lured by a bass (instrument) into a trap (bass trap) and then restrained with a bass strap... You get the idea. Instead you'll have to settle for me in my boxers.
