I've worked with a lot of influencers and personal brands and I wanted to share with you the requirements you should aim for when it comes to getting verified on Instagram. In my mind, there are two parts of getting verified on Instagram. - The Press - The Submission Let's start with Press. In order to get verified on instagram you need to be featured or interviewed in online publications. They should talk about you or your business and they need to focus on a specific niche. This content should position you as an authority in your niche. The easiest accounts to get instagram verification on are musicians, models, actors, athletes, authors, ect. These accounts require 10+ articles and none of them need to be tier 1. The next type of accounts are Entrepreneurs. These accounts are much more difficult to get verified and have higher requirements. I'd recommend aiming for 20+ articles and about 2-4 being tier 1 articles like Forbes, Time Magazine, Entrepreneur magazine, The Huffington Post, ect. These websites are considered credible in Instagram's eyes and rank well in Google. Entrepreneurs rarely get verified on instagram without some tier 1 articles. The last type of accounts are businesses or brands. These accounts would be like Nike. These accounts are incredibly difficult to get verification checks or blue badges on. I'd recommend aiming for 30+ total articles about your brand and 3-5 tier 1 publications. Avoid Indian or blacklisted press. The best press is niched, organic press that you do not pay for. If Instagram finds out that you paid for that press, then they will not count it towards your verification badge. It may even hurt you. How can you get niched, organic press? Reach out to writers of small blogs or niched magazines. Offer to write an article for them for free and share it with your audience. Make sure these articles are on point for your niche. PART 2 - The Submission After you have hit your press requirements, now you need to submit for instagram verification so Facebook can review your account and decide if you are fitting for the blue badge. People overcomplicate this but the simplest way to submit is via the Instagram app. This has the lowest success rate however. There are VIP portals like media partner portals, athlete portals, or FB marketing portals but they cost thousands and thousands of dollars. You often use a middle man for these services and pay only if successful. Does Follower Count Matter? Kind of. You can get verified with 1,000 followers or less. I think it does have weight but it is not one of the criteria Facebook/Instagram looks at when verifying your account. Any Tips? Get all your press done prior to the submission. For some reason, accounts with multiple submissions tend to have lower success rates.
