I hadn't heard of the MARA until recently and based on my research, their product is a hybrid Smart Fitness Mirror/ Smartphone/ Computer. It weighs 84 pounds, has omni-directional microphones and supports millions of android apps. Its screen as an oleophobic coating, making it smudge proof but not entirely fingerprint resistant. As a side note, oleophobic coatings which by definition “lack an affinity to oils”, first gained popularity with the iPhone 3GS, which was the first phone to be covered with this type of coating. What sets this mirror apart from other fitness mirrors in the market its similarity to a smartphone or computer. A few things you can accomplish with Mara: - You can connect with others using zoom or other video conferencing apps - You can make it an educational tool utilizing online learning apps such as Khan Academy, Udacity, etc. - You can workout with your favorite fitness apps, for example for Peloton users, you can easily stream their workouts in front of you - You can shop through Amazon or any other app of your choice - And of course, you can also play your favorite app games as well For a bit of background on this company, Refliko is a privately held company, founded 2 years ago in 2018 and are located here in the San Francisco Bay Area with an office in Palo Alto. This mirror has a steep retail price of $4,999, making it one of the most high-end fitness mirrors on the market, however coupled with the fact that its open platform allows you run practically any app of your choice, perhaps the higher price difference can be justified. For comparative purposes, the fitness product namesake Mirror itself has a retail price of $1,495, however its functionality is limited to their Mirror digital app at a price of $39 per month. In contrast, the Refliko Mara requires no recurring monthly subscription for use. This mirror is not wall-mountable; it stands at a patent-pending 7 degree lean for optimal user experience. Also, due to its weight of 84 pounds, it is specifically designed not to be wall mounted. Delivery is 6-8 weeks from order date. Due to the design, weight, and logistics, each Mara is built to order.
