@Smallville 8x21 - Tess Mercer Tells Clark Kent to Defeat Doomsday & Save the World | Morality & Fate
: Tess Mercer tells Clark Kent to Defeat Doomsday and Save the World, that an entire civilization depends on it. - Cassidy Freeman & Tom Welling. Clark resists Tess. "If the world had more people like you, the world would be a better place... but the truth is, that's out of your hands now, you can't avoid your fate." - Tess Mercer
They argue about morality and fate - Culture:
"Don't you see I'm doing this all for you?" - Tess Mercer
"Why are you so determined to see Davis Bloome die?" - Clark Kent
"That's simple Clark. An entire civilization's survival depends on it."
"The mark of a true hero is willing to sacrifice morality to help keep the world safe." - Tess Mercer
"No one has the right to choose who lives and who dies." - Clark Kent
She's pushing Clark to embrace his destiny, but Clark (at this time in Smallville/DC Entertainment) is resisting the strong Tess/Lena Luthor. He claims she's like Lex Luthor.
Tess Mercer had the crystal destroyed to force Clark to fight Davis Bloome/Doomsday. She thinks he would have escaped the phantom zone. She knows he is Kal El.
Doomsday would have destroyed the world and killed everyone. Tess had tried to terminate serial killer Davis already, but failed.
I really loved this scene. I saw it as Tess pushing Clark to be more than he was, such as seen when putting the paper of "The Red Blue Blur" story in Season 8 after the plane save. At this time, powerful women were resisted, seen as threatening, yet, this also is more progressive than now as well.
Thanks CW/Warner Bros for letting us see powerful women and scenes like this with a battle of heroes! I wish there was more. I only wish Clark Kent (and the larger public) had embraced it then. Some of us internationally loved it!
From Warner Bros - Season 8, Episode 21 (Finale).
(Thankfully 10 years later there's Mera/Amber Heard, Wonder Woman, and Captain Marvel showing progress in the Industry, and they're heroes. They protect their lives - including the actresses - to see that the attacks *such as Tess faced* aren't true. But the public still vilifies these women, and it's still rare. Supergirl is not letting Lena Luthor 2 end up being powerful and good).
