Christoph Rehage's video: HORSES AND AEROPLANES Timelapse

This footage is from Tamga on the southern shore of lake Issyk-kul. It was taken in September 2014 (GPS: 42° 9'0.01"N 77°32'41.08"E) The initial idea was to walk all the way from Kaji-Say to Tamga, but I never made it. I walked and I walked, sweating and panting and cursing the mountain on my back. I just hadn't packed for walking, it was terrible. I saw horses and cows roaming the land, and all the while the blue disc that was called Issyk-kul kept me company. Then I noticed a delivery truck somewhere in a ditch, and a group of Kyrgyz and Russian people around it. They were trying to push the truck out of the ditch. There was some shouting, and there was a lot of dust in the air. I dropped my backpack and, suddenly feeling light as an air, I got behind the truck. We didn't talk much but immediately started rocking the truck back and forth, and after a while it was free. The driver's name was Alexander, and he invited me to stay in his guest house. I asked him where it was. Tamga, he said, had I heard of that place? They had an old Soviet jet plane there. I ended up staying for several days. Alexander was a mountain climber, and he showed me some black and white shots from back in the days. There was one photo that he looked at longer than the others. It was of his friend, who had died in the mountains years ago. "He died doing what he loved. Couldn't that be a good thing?" I asked. Alexander looked at me and said: "No." Then there was silence for a while. We both looked at the photo of his friend. It was in the mountains. He was smiling. The sky seemed blue even though it was a black and white photograph. "Life should be long." Alexander said.
